Im a marketing management bachelors degree graduate. .I have no trouble of getting jobs in my range of studies

But after working a for awhile, i just dont have interest in u know business-ing,marketing,socializing.. I realize that when after i do all the marketing and sales stuff, when it comes to the technical system stuff..i just cant stop doing it.

Im into computer stuff.IT,multimedia. I can make my own website, flash website,i know C and C++ by learning myself.I know how to use numerous programs and softwares.

I know how to build my own pc.

My point is, i want to do something regarding technical stuff but with my degree and my personality, people tend to want me in marketing. By heart i love systems,pc related, troubleshooting.

What job is suitable for me?

Besides going to have to study on IT and Computer science,

is there any other stepping stone for me to go thru so i can be in IT or multimedia?

Help

Thanks ppl

You could go into programming of computer science but I think you will love Network security. It is like the hacking police. You find out the tricks of computer hackers and you design was to block them it pays well. Bank, hospitals, police dept.want their computers safe.

Java program?

Write a Java program that asks a user to type A,B,C or Q. When the user types Q, the program ends. When the user types A,B or C, the program displays the message "Good Job!" and then asks for another input. When the user types anything else, issue an error message and then ask for another input. The class name is ABCInput.

Java program?
BufferedReader BR =new.................................

while(true){

System.out.print("Input A B,C or Q: ");

String Input= BR.readLine();

if(Input.equals("A") || Input.equals("B") || Input.equals("C"))

{

System.out.println("Good");

}

else if(Input.equals("Q")){ break;}

else{System.out.println("Issued an Error message");}

}
Reply:lol... that guy is quite frank... it's actually not that rude.. but u really should do it yourself. the input entry should be under switch statement. for the main, u can actually make use of do-while loop or even if else ;-) the more u try it urself, the better u'll get!!
Reply:Do your assignment yourself! Please ask specific questions, dont ask for the whole solution... Its really rude! Trust me!
Reply:This sounds like homework to me!

As a hint, use a switch statement for the letter input.
Reply:U can use a switch statement or and if statement to determine what the user has inputted. Use the scanner class. It is not that hard using the if statement. Also u need a while loop.

What is the best route to obtaining a class A, C.D.L. in S.C.?

I am a army vetran of 9 years and 4 combat tours and have recently returned home to S.C. as a civian to live out the rest of my life. I am interested in obtaining a class A, C.D.L. to help in my search for a job. I am not interested in driving long distance but I want to drive in state or local for maybe a local plant or farm. I do have experience with larger trucks from the army but my training is not transferable. I know nothing about getting a C.D.L. other than the ads I see in papers so I don't know whitch one would be the best or if I am being overcharged or whatever else may happen to someone that is unsuspecting. Please help me in my selection of the right program for me, any information you can offer will be greatly appriciated

What is the best route to obtaining a class A, C.D.L. in S.C.?
You can either go to school for about 4 or 5 grand, hire on with a company that will pay for you to go to school if you work for them for a year or you can go to the bmv or dmv and get a book to study, study it, find a truck driver to help you with what you need to know, and take all the tests one at a time til you pass. Then you will have your permit. Hold it so long and go test for the cdl. Good Luck to you.

Hi! What's the best way to get back into programming now, if my skills are 'behind the curve'?

I am a computer software test engineer, and in last 5 to 7 years have been assigned to job tasks that are less 'technical', or proprietary to my company . . i.e. related to specifically my company's electronic business vs. for instance, Microsoft skills.

Is best path to go back to school, specific technical courses, or online self-training?

Am interested in others' specific training plans, if they had to deal with same situation, please?

Was thinking of targeting Visual Studio 5.0, C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server . . . is that a good starting place? I need to be able to program and maintain 'test harness' code, most likely in C#, and possibly write other test automation code.

Would prefer answers from computing/IT professionals who have been in industry longer than 10 years please?

thanks, Mike B.

Hi! What's the best way to get back into programming now, if my skills are 'behind the curve'?
Well, my suggestion is to do what I do and that's to sit your *** down and start working on everything you need to catch up on and do it at home on your own time to start with, anyway. Oddly, I find that being self-taught (or self-updated!) seems to be one of the most effective ways to do this and you can start at work at a faster pace than if you'd not done anything at all but still learn much more when you start working on everything at your job again!! School takes far too long and you always end up needing that O.J.T. anyway!!!
Reply:i would recommend Programming for Dummies....jk..all i know is javascript

If I owe debt under my C Corporation can they come after my personal assets?

Our company is a startup, about 3 months into operation, but are already swimming in about $22,000 of debit ( $10,000 loan, and $12,000 credit card ), the problem being we made a few costly mistakes in the beginning, and thus here we are today.

My main full time job, is cutting payroll by almost 50%, so instead of making $1400 - 1500 a month, now its less than $900. I cannot pay my current debts off. I'm already enrolled into a personal debt collection management program.

*** Here is my question ***

1. As a C-Corporation am I personally protected from the business debt? Meaning if say the business owes X amount of dollars, they cannot harass me or try to take my car or house or w/e to pay off the funds.

2. How do I go about explaining to them? Should I file for chapter 11 bankruptcy.. but at the same time I'd like to save the company somehow, I just can't pay off this debt.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

If I owe debt under my C Corporation can they come after my personal assets?
Im sure your corporate paperwork says that you are only responsible for the money you placed into stock. Say 500 dollars.

They would have to break your corporate veil. Meaning the creditor can show that you never paid the 500 for your stock. Or that you didnt have your required meetings. That you didnt keep minutes. Or worse you used the business accounts for any personal items.

If you did it above board you are fine. If you use your business checking account or credit card to take out 100 bucks for personal use. You are screwed. It depends on how you did it. If you used your business account for a personal lunch or night on the town and didnt properly expense it. I would be worried. If you didnt, then you are protected. If you didnt follow all your state laws the viel can and most likely be broken. Meaning you used the company as a personal account. Therefore they can go after anything personal of yours.

I hope you took minutes I hope you kept record of where all the money went. Because if you cant prove it. They could very easly pierce the corprate veil.

And anything you personally own they can go after.
Reply:to the first answerer - a C-Corp is a standard corporation -has nothing to do with the Sched C on a 1040 tax return.

So long as any debts thru the corporation were not personally guaranteed by you as an individual, you should be protected
Reply:If you incorporated (you used the word corporation), that releases you from personal liability against debts of the corporation. You don't need to explain "this" to them. Did you take out this debt using your SSN or your company TIN?

It sounds like you are not truly incorporated. Schedule C is used by individuals to file taxes for a personal business. Corporations will file their own income taxes wholly separate from individuals. It sounds as though you never incorporated (this typically costs $1000 or more and often requires legal assistance). I have never heard of such a beast as a C-Corporation.

What's the fastest way most people learn C and C++?

I might have to use some Java for a new job, but have only taken an introductory level course two years ago. I forget most of what I learned, plus I did not do well at all.

I have a 3 books: C by Example, C/C++ Annotated Archives, and Rescued by C++. Is a fast way to learn simply retyping programs and seeing if they run?

Try those programs used for making apps. If you select the option it will allow you to download some tutorials. The best thing, I think, is to just experiment and ask questions when you come across them. Maybe search Youtube or Veoh for 'c tutorials.
Reply:yeah just do more research
Reply:To be honest, the fastest way to learn is to start coding, even if it is simple apps. I find that tutorial driven books are very good for that. Of course, it depends - you said you didn't do that well in Java - do you have other programming experience? The reason I ask is that there are some fundamentals in programming that apply to all languages, and if you try to just jump in without having those down, chances are you are going to struggle with the C or C++ as well, because I think they are both more difficult than Java. I would suggest going back and refreshing you Java skills first - make sure you are competent at creating decision structures, classes, methods, etc. Then, I would try to start learning the C or C++. I found that once I learned the concepts and structures of programming, I was easily able to pick up new languages. But, if you don't get the base concepts right, you will struggle with all languages. Good luck.
Reply:Start writing apps, easy ones first. Most of the time in the process of writing an app, you discover the need to learn something new. This is what happened when I had to write an app with a SQL Server backend. I already knew the basic SQL syntax, so I was able to apply that to first stored procedures, then functions. WHen the need arises to learn things like indexes, I'll learn about that.

It's all a work in progress.
Reply:I usually read a section, if I have any doubts about it, I'll write my own test program to see what I don't understand. It works for me.

Programming career?

With these criteria, do you think i could get a job working for a big video game company (EX. Bungie, Infinity Ward, EA)? if not, what else would i need to take in College?

im in my second year of college.

I can program in VB and Java. but plan on learning C++ and C#.

I enjoy 2D and 3D design. I can use AutoCad, Solid Edge and BricsCAD. I plan on taking a Catia class.

I also love to play all types of Video games (Sports, shooters, strategy)

Programming career?
Alot of programming is done in C or C++, so be sure to get that under your belt.

If when you start looking, you should have something that you can show them that you have done in the past (ie a small video game you made or something part of a bigger project that you worked on.)

You probably wont be using CAD, but you really should have experience with 3D design (I'm not an expert in that, but get to know what Artists and Graphic Designers use).

Also, in the mean time, go to the web sites of game companies and look at their job postings. That tells you what they are looking for. Here is just an example:

http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/

They want people who love games, but not just that. You need to show that you have an eye for detail.

Your first job might either be software testing or junior programmer.

Try hard to get some experience before you graduate.

Working in a computer lab or doing software testing or programming anywhere (even at your school) will help alot and look good when applying.

H1b visas - jobs Americans aren't available to do?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...

" The California Republican Party has decided no American is qualified to take one of its most crucial positions - state deputy political director -- and has hired a Canadian for the job through a coveted H-1B visa, a program favored by Silicon Valley tech firms that is under fire for displacing skilled American workers.

In the nation's most populous state -- which has produced a roster of nationally known veteran political consultants -- "it's insulting but also embarrassing ... to bring people from the outside who don't know the difference between Lodi and Lancaster ... and who can't even vote,'' said Karen Hanretty, a political commentator and former state GOP party spokeswoman. "

I think it's hilarious, but also shows that maybe we DON'T need more, only to allocate them properly.

What do you think?

H1b visas - jobs Americans aren't available to do?
The number of H1B visa entering this country is a travesty. There are skilled US workers being displaced because Silicon Valley doesn't want to pay higher wages. Foreigners are willing to take lower wages in exchange to live here and apply for permanent residency.
Reply:At least he's here legally, but I think it paints an ugly picture for California politics. How many American applicants were there for the job? What were their qualifications?

Does this job involve any sort of security clearance?

I think this is weird.
Reply:Sometimes an outside perspective is good for people, really in my belief any job where you have to create BS for people is not a actual job, when has politics actually accomplished something. Just a thought, but the H-1B visa was intended for what you said it was. The way these companies are abusing it is by saying no one will take our job, but in reality there are people who are more than qualified but ask for a better salary so in order to cut costs they get people who are probably just as qualified from the third world who are willing to do it for less. Yes the H1-B visa does have its positives because there are some fields that we do need people and this gives employers the opportunity to look abroad to fill a need, but many comapnies have been abusing the system.

Does anyone know of any programs in the Washington D.C area that may assist the unemployed with resources?

I have a friend who was layed off of her job of 25 years, she is now 47 years old. She hasn't been working now for two years. She has applied to many jobs but she is having a hard time finding a job. It is starting to effect her pyschologically, and I dont know how to help. She needs resources. I would love, if you all could give me some websites or phone number relevant to helping people in need of a boost in life. She lives in Washington DC.

Does anyone know of any programs in the Washington D.C area that may assist the unemployed with resources?
Have her go to one of these offices to ask for assistance. There may be programs that can help retrain her for another job (called the Workforce Investment Act).

Beside writing T-SQL queries does a SQL Server 2005 Administrator needs to know programming?

I was wondering if a SQL Server 2005 Administrator or Developer needs to have a deep knowledge in C# or other NET languages?? I mea n is it required? I was under the impression that SQL %26amp; T-SQL programming and SQL Administratives tasks were the only requirement to apply for a sql server job??

Thanks.

Beside writing T-SQL queries does a SQL Server 2005 Administrator needs to know programming?
In Database System, SQL language doesn't enough, so they provide us with built-in function like TODAY, DECODEDATE, etc. but that doesn't enough either, so we need to build our User Defined Function eg: to count char in one field, to know the size of blob data, etc... and one thing i know is User Defined Functions are build with another programming language like C++ (we can build it with Delphi too , but is not common).

if your job as Administrator is just to maintain, backup and fine-tune the database then you don't need any other programming language except Sql.

but if your job as SQL server application developer, then you need other programming language to interact with Sql server.
Reply:see it totally depends on the requirement. Actually If you are DBA i means SQl Admin u don't require But see sometimes If your Project is engaged with C# based Project using SQl as backend may be then. Even I wonder on that.

Gross Receipts on Schedule C?

I am putting this in this category as well for more answers before I input my information into my tax program.

****I am an independant contractor and this is my first year filing for my business.

I received a form 1099-misc from the company I did work for, and I have income under box 7 "non-employee compensation".

I keep getting an error when I e-file my return in regards to the Gross Receipts portion on Schedule C cannot be left blank or zero...but I don't know what the Gross Receipts are.

Can anyone clarify for me in "laymen's terms"?

I'm just not getting it and the tax preparer site I'm using is either vague, or I'm just too tired to "get it" right now. haha

Thanks!***

Also, someone did answer in the other category and said that gross receipts meant put in my income there.

Does this mean my business only income, or the business income plus the W-2's from my husband and my other jobs?

Thanks again!

Gross Receipts on Schedule C?
Gross receipts is the total amount you received in compensation as reflected on the Form 1099. You should also include other money paid to you for your services for which you may NOT have received a 1099.
Reply:Your earnings as an independent contractor would go on the Gross Receipts line on Schedule C or C-EZ.

W-2 income would go on Line 7 of Form 1040.
Reply:The answer given by Jwishz is correct.

I would add that it sounds like you're in over your head at this point, and I would recommend having your taxes prepared by a professional (note: not a storefront tax prep company) this year. Even if not much money is made, returns for self-employed individuals can be much more complicated than those who get their incomes solely from W2s.

Programmers, If i have the choice to take C# in sch, on top of my C++. Should I take it?

I heard programming is vital to the world and I really need someone who is damn pro to explain to me how all the C,J,Java,VIsual Basic really works and what its can do, how it relates to my future job as engineer, so on and so forth. Thanks alot.

Programmers, If i have the choice to take C# in sch, on top of my C++. Should I take it?
You should definitely complement your C++ studies by taking C# courses.

C# was developed in 2000 and is known as Microsoft's flagship language. It is said to resemble both Java and C++. Many engineers seem to prefer C# over both Java and C++. C# programming has quickly become a "hot" job skill. Programmers that have experience with C# and related technologies are likely to be in high demand for the foreseeable future.

The C# language is an object-oriented language that is aimed at enabling programmers to quickly build a wide range of applications for the Microsoft .NET platform. The goal of C# and the .NET platform is to shorten development time by freeing the developer from worrying about several low level plumbing issues such as memory management, type safety issues, building low level libraries, array boundschecking , etc. thus allowing developers to actually spend their time and energy working on their application and business logic instead. The previous sentence could be described as "a short description of the Java language and platform" if the words C# and the .NET platform were replaced with words Java and the Java platform. Easier than C++. The C# language may share resources with other languages under a common runtime. Concurrent to java, runs on .NET or compatible platforms (Portable NET, Mono).

______________________________________...

THE OTHER LANGUAGES

______________________________________...

C

C is a popular language, especially in game programming, because it doesn't have the extra packaging of the object-oriented C++. Programmers use C because it makes programs slightly faster and smaller than programs written in C++. You might wonder, however, whether it's worth giving up the reuseability of C++ to get the small increase in performance with C, especially when C++ can, where necessary, be written in a C programming style. C offers great freedom, and lot of debugging challenges-thanks to pointers and memory management. Suffering slow programming to make fast programs. It is primarily used for system programming.

--------

C++

C++ is C plus objects, an extended library, templates. C++ is great for system programming—like C—but allows for larger project, or applications. C++ is well-suited for large projects because it has an object-oriented structure. People can collaborate on one program by breaking it up into parts and having a small group or even one individual work on each part. The object-oriented structure also allows code to be reused a lot, which can cut down development time. C++ is also a fairly efficient language - although many C programmers will disagree.

--------

JAVA

Java Was designed to be portable and to replace C++. Java is a multi-platform language that is especially useful in networking. Of course, the most famous usage of Java is on the web, with Java applets, but Java is also used to build cross-platform programs that stand alone. Since it resembles C++ in syntax and structure, learning Java is usually quite easy for most C++ programmers. Java offers the advantages provided by object-oriented programming, such as reusability; on the other hand, it can be difficult to write highly efficient code in Java, and Swing, its primary user interface, is notoriously slow. Nevertheless, Java has increased in speed in recent years, and version 1.5 offers some new features for making programming easier.

The two most attractive aspects of Java are that it can be a safe language (all errors are caught by the compiler or bytecode checker or cause runtime exceptions), and its portability (especially its wide range of standard libraries).

---___________________________________...

Visual Basic.NET

Visual Basic is and object-oriented language. It was designed to allow for the rapid development of software and prototyping. It is extremely popular way to create Windows GUIs. In addition, it being used more and more to develop database and web-based applications.

______________________________________...

The Microsoft.NET Platform

______________________________________...

ASP.NET, C#, and VB.NET are all the same platform! You can do exactly the same things with VB.NET and C#. In theory, every program that can be written in one .NET language can be written in the other—producing exactly the same binary code. ASP.NET is just the web toolkit, like JSP in Java. When you add them together, it's Microsoft.NET.
Reply:I doubt you really understand anything from this, but we all like long explanations ,,Don't we ? its as simple as copy-paste google..why bather a real life answer. (Stupid) Report It

Reply:okay,

if you intend to work on industrial programming, use C++, because most of the machines exist today still programmed on C/C++..and if you intend to work on microsoft platform use C#,,or any other .net language (all the same).

p.s. C++ = slow production %26amp; powerfull results on all platforms.

C#/VB = fast production %26amp; powerfull results on win platform only.

Visual c++ or vb.net?

compare visual c++ and vb.net in following fields:

1.easy to learn

2.powerfull

3.portable

4.job

5.size of code

6.system programing

7.etc

Visual c++ or vb.net?
The comparison in VC++ and vb.net is as follows

1.easy to learn: if you do not know C/C++ then vb.net is easier to learn. if you had prior experience of programming in c/c++ then vc++ is easier.

2.powerful: for normal desktop applications both are equally powerful. but if you want to develop something for speed and require machin interaction there is no other choice except vc++. it has the power to compile to machine native code.

3.portable: the code for both is not portable but in vc++ you can write portable code. the vb.net code will only run with vb.net compiler

4.job: a vb.net developer will get job in application software industry and web development companies. a vc++ developer will get job in hardcore software companies, making device drivers etc. in the long run vc++ is much better.

5.size of code: the size of code depends on the problem being solved. in general both require same amount of code

6.system programing: system programming in vb.net is limited to the use of builin APIs and managed libraries. vc++ can usher you in a world of unlimited hardware and system access.

7.etc : in miscellaneous terms if you wish to develop small time application needed to run on desktops and you are not going for speed of processing, then vb.net is the ultimate choice. if you wish to develop for speed and power then VC++ rules the programming world.

VB %26gt; C++

2.powerfull

C++ %26gt; VB

3.portable

Both rely on Windows API.

4.job

?

5.size of code

C++ produces smaller and more efficient code, but vb.net also get some serious CLR optimizations.

6.system programing

? check out avalon and indigo services in the upcoming windows vista, .net will be much more powerful in the future, for the current OS es it is C++ who rules.

How long would it take to learn C++ at an hour or 2 a day for game design?

I'm thinking about getting into game design and I hear C++ is the perfect place to start and to learn that first. I took Visual Basic in high school a couple years ago and was in the top 2-3 in my class. However i dont remember much of it now since it was 2 years ago and i havent practiced, but im sure i can remember it once i get into it again.

They were going to put me in AP Java afterwards but i didnt go because at the time i found VB boring (I should've gone i would be landing jobs left and right right now but oh well). I think it was because i had no incentive to code. They only had us doing boring stuff like making restaurant programs or calculators or something, so i never continued with it, it was annoying having to do cheap programs just because everyone else couldnt keep up. Anyway given my backround and stuff, how long would it take to learn C++? on my own without classes.

How long would it take to learn C++ at an hour or 2 a day for game design?
dude VB is a joke no offense.

C++/VC/C.NET/C.# , there are load of tutorials on the Internet just google them, plus get a book, and practice

how long it will take? this question only you can answer.
Reply:C++ is no more difficult to learn that any other language - especially if like yourself you already know how to program. The structures are similar - only the syntax is different plus you need to get your head around object oriented programming and pointers. But I'm sure you can do that!

Most importantly - you need to understand Direct X. This is regardless or the language you choose. The good news is - Direct X 10 is easier to learn than any of its predecessors... And its a lot of fun!

Good luck

Programming games?

I heard that to get a game prgramming job, u should know C AND C++...I decided that since I'm in 9th grade right now, i should make myself familiar with C first since C++ is more complicated, i guess i should start with C first...anyone know the best tutorials to learn C online? I tried many such as the ones on cprogramming.com.........

Programming games?
Whether you start with C or C++, you'll need your own compiler so you can experiment with programming by yourself.

Other options to consider are going the library or bookshop and finding a book, or learning another programming language like Javascript first where you can test with your web browser (you don't need a compiler).

Try some of the links below to see if any of them suit you. Otherwise try a google or yahoo search with terms like

learn C online

or

C online course

or stuff like that.

Anyway, hope this helps.
Reply:Sign up for a programming course at school. Most high school's will have at least a course pre-AP Computer Science. It's very helpful to have a teacher that corrects your programs. good luck!
Reply:C and C++ are very similar, and so you don't have to learn C yet. C++ is not much more complicated. But if you don't know how to program yet, you might want to try programing in Python, before learning C++ because it is an easier and less complex language to learn. I actually started off by learning C++, then Java, C#, and Python, and I think Python is the easiest.

C++ Tutorial: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

Oh yeah, and don't use Notepad. (horrible for this purpose). Use something like Microsoft's Visual C++ or something else.

Python tutorial: http://docs.python.org/tut/

For this, just download python (just google it) and click on the IDLE under the start menu (if you are using windows)

Good Luck!

(Also, if you are looking into game developement, try Blender. Its open source (free with the source code), and you can make games, but this uses python. For more game engines, go to http://www.devmaster.net/engines/list.ph... A lot of them are free, but others cost thousands of dollars.)

An SQL Server Administrator needs to know programming or not?
Yes, indeed. If you want a certification, it's part of the requirements.

TSQL queries are not enough, you might need to create stored procedures, views or triggers which are a common use of TSQL in a programmatic way. Queries are not the only way to handle data as well, sooner or later you'll have to deal with cursors too. Even jobs might call a SP or have some code to perform some task. You can use ActiveX from TSQL and that requires to connect to an ActiveX DLL and use its methods and properties, usually this is wrapped in a SP.

If you use SQL 2005 then you need also to know any .NET language to create stored procedures, views or triggers that might require more powerful calculations. If you need a lot of number crunching or low level access then you might even need to create an extended stored procedure in C++, but this mostly for extreme performance cases such as scientific, financial, etc...
Reply:yes it is required. You must atleast know how to make the sql queries through C#, J# or most applications. As an administrator the most problem faced are glitch in programming, they cause trouble, and in order to troubleshoot ( debug ), you must know at least the language that was used to create the application you are using binded with SQL.

Just knowing SQL is never enough, when a problem occurs like the application says " unable to make queries " , you need to get to the root of the application to find the glitch, the problem might be as simple such as a Wrong time stamp or overload...

Is video game programming within my reach?

I'm currently 15 years old and have been playing video games since I was a toddler. I want to know if I could qualify for a position in a company as a video game programmer.

I know that math is a big part of being a programmer, and I'm quite good at it. Also, somewhat recently I took it upon myself to download a free C++ compiler (www.bloodshed.net/) and use tutorial websites and books from my library to learn the language. So far, I find it fun to write up source codes during my spare time, just to create things for my own entertaintment. I'm so interested in getting into this field, someday, that I'm devoting myself to learning C++ and taking math as my most serious class. This summer I plan on using some money I've saved up to do a sort of "Summer camp" for programming at UC Irvine.

If there are any programmers out there that could give me an idea of what kind of competition I'm going to have to face to get the job of my dreams, please tell me.

Thanks

Is video game programming within my reach?
as long as you have the passion to do the things

you like, it is surely possible.. ^^

(Note: the website goes down sometimes)

EDIT: CRAP, I thought you were asking for a game engine...

Sorry
Reply:With your passion for video game programming, you will do quite well. Keep it up. Also, continue to play as many different video games as you can. You should also start building up experience to put on your resume. At 15 that will be hard to do in person, but you can find ways. Find some open source projects to participate in or maybe do some work on a website like rentacoder.
Reply:As this is an EXTREMELY competitive field, you really should get a degree first or you will have very little chance of impressing most companies enough that they will want to hire you.I suppose there is a very slim chance that some company might take you without one if you demonstrate enough proficiency, though I sincerely doubt they'd take you at your age. As it is, you owuld probably need to get a work permit first!

If you're not already aware, there are programs that you can download or buy which will allow you to program your own video games. RPGMaker is the only one that I know of, but I am sure that there must be some others.. If you are good at writing programs, though, you can likely learn how to create games on your own. It take A LOT of time to to learn and even more to complete a game, but it would be a REALLY good idea to create samples of your work. This will show potential employers that you have both the skills and the follow-through to be a successful and productive member of the industry, and a very good hire as well.

Once you actually HAVE a program to run, though, there is actually little or no math used to construct the game. It is usually just a matter of learning how to use things called 'flags' which will trigger certain events (e.g. FMVs or any sort of in-game movement), as well as clicking and dragging to show what the actual movement should be. This is a more 'hands-on' approach to game design, and it actually sounds like more fun to me. I'm not good with math, though, so I am obviously a little bit biased. :) The only reason I mention it is that if you want to do THAT sort of thing, you won't have to use much math at all. It's definitely a major asset to be good at math, though, if it is the actual design of the creative programs themselves which is more your goal.

This is a VERY competitive industry, but I think you should go for this if it is your dream. Learn as much as you can as soon as you can, and start creating samples of your work so that you can show the companies that you are prepared.

Good luck!
Reply:If you are asking for a real game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R or GTA that is not a reachable think for one person , if you had the resources or the hardware it would take many lifetimes.

You can simply start by building java games for example.

Of course you can develop into a quality programmer hun, those guys just don't have an extra brain or more body organs

And if you really want, oneday your dreams may come true.

Where jobs are available to wives on/around an Army Base?

My wife and I are trying to decide between Army reserves and full time active. She's concerned about jobs available to her. She is now working for the state in the disability benefits program working on claimant's cases. I'm hoping many people will reply with positive experiences as I'm leaning towards full time. Can wives work at the bases, too? We're looking around the big cities like New York, D.C., etc.

Thank you, again!

Where jobs are available to wives on/around an Army Base?
Check this link out... http://www.milspouse.org/... hopefully it will help. (MilSpouse.org is your resource library for military spouse employment, education and relocation information. Here you will find links to employment related information and other resources for military spouses and military families.)
Reply:On the installation; There are civilian jobs within the operations of the post Headquarters such as clerical positions, the post engineers (those responsible for the up keep of the base) hires civilians in large numbers and the post housing hires civilians to manage and maintain temporary quarters. Additionally the Post Exchange (PX) and Commissary is operated by civilian employees. If the base has a Mall Complex your wife can possibly can rent a space and create her own business opportunity. Most bases have the major fast food chains located on them that hire the military dependents as well as the base library, child care facilities and recreational facilities.

Off the base; Most of the major military installation have ('Army Town') towns or cities bordering them like outside Fort Benning is Columbus, GA, Fort Hood is Killeen, TX, Fort Dix is Wrightstown, NJ, etc. when employment opportunities abound from A.J. Wrights to health care to whatever, if she's willing to apply herself and hurt for the position she desires there isn't any reason why she can't find it.
Reply:Sure your wife can get a job working for AAFES(PX, etc...) or Deca(commissary). She could even get a DoD job, she can even try getting a job as a substitue teacher. But there are plenty of options open to her. And depending on where you are stationed places like Home Depot or Wachovia are big on hiring military spouses.
Reply:spouses can find a job on or off base. The problem is finding a job they;d be willing to do at a salary they are willing to take.

In some areas, the only thing available is retail. In others you can be a professional quite easily. It will take hard work and commitment on her part to be able to work wherever you are stationed.. keeping in mind that if you ever get sent OCONUS, her opportunities will be severely limited based on SOFA, which relegates most jobs to Host nationals. and she must understand that in many places she will be over qualified, and on others she will be underqualified.
Reply:Yes she can, I believe there is someplace on base that you can go and see a list of all the job postings.
Reply:you wife can get a job at the commisarry, the px, and all the army community services shops she can work at a day care, or work off base if she wants. some times there are slim pickens when it comes to jobs for spouses, but it depends if you get sent to a small or large base
Reply:I can tell you right now you are going to be dissipointed. The chances of you ending up in a large East Coast city are slim.

With that said like someone said above there are a ton of places to work on base and off base but in the area. bases are generally their own little community so they always need the same kind of people that regular towns need.
Reply:Well are you US military because the bases in NY are nowhere near NYC and getting stationed at DC is unlikely unless you are a key person or a PSD agent. Honestly they are sending you where they need you and jobs are hard to get but the fact that she already works for the state will work for her, I know a few wives who are able to transfer from base to base.

What MOS are you that will affect a lot as well. Also when you are deployed for 15mo will your wife want to stay at base of go home closer to family. I mean there are tons of variables but you are likely not going to be stationed near a big city in the army. You will also have little choice of where you will go.
Reply:There are always jobs on the base, they are not always good jobs. If your wife has an education that will help. It is really hard to get in to the GS jobs. Veterens have preference. There are always jobs in the surrounding community as well. Some army communities are VERY good about about hiring military spouses and some are NOT. It just depends. When I was looking in SC I sent out resume after resume off post and only had one interview. I ended up having to work at the PX for a few months until something better came along. Now we are in TN...I have had many interviews but still job hunting after 4 months. May have to take something at WalMart or something until I can do better. It is NOT easy finding good work as a military spouse. You have to start over everytime you move...it can be frustrating. The key is to make sure that you can support the two of you, then if she gets a job great and if it takes awhile...that is ok too! Good luck.

Software Testing Vs Programming?

I m 24, Engineer looking for a career change to software from manufacturing Industry. I know C to some extent C++ thought of either learning J2EE or .NET %26amp;C#. But friends suggested to take software testing coz

1. There are large of progrmmers are there for J2EE, Market demand going down for JAVA.

2. It take atleast 1 to 2 year to be familiar or to that level to get the job in software company.

Instead for Testing

1. I can get into industry faster (my target is 5 months time) and once into the field.

2.i can simultaneously learn prog lang to move to programming later say 1 or 2 year down the line.

what should i do?

Software Testing Vs Programming?
Getting started in the IT industry does take some effort. Learning a programming language could take the 1 to 2 years you mentioned.

If you are able to get into a company in QA the department, doing testing, and getting paid. That is good.

You then have the time to learn not only the Company's business and product, but you can also have a path to get into the development side of the house.

If/When you interview for a testing position, ask them about career path. Is there a path in the QA department to grow, and/or do they encorage switching groups/departments. Note some may have a set time they require you to stay in QA before allowing transfer, you may want to present it to them that way on an interview.
Reply:Well both are good, but what programmers think of testers are that they are always there to find bad points(which actully they are). My personal experience with testing is not good. Programmers get pissed off when they are told this part is not working properly. Then they might demand you to keep trying and get the bug repeated which is hell of a task. I also think that you need some knowdedge programming languages so that you can have the idea how it works. You can easily detect some numerical errors or bugs in state machines if you have some basic knowledge. Hope it helps
Reply:Your future lies in JAVA. Try it if you are confident.
Reply:I would try to pick up C#. That is the hot programming language at this moment. As far as testing goes, I do not know because I have always been a developer and we never had testers that were not the clients. But that is just my experience. Good luck and the money is out there.

RJ
Reply:It depends in what you like to do, I worked in Testing for 4 months as a try out and personally I didn't like it but here are some pros and cons of software testing.

Cons

A lot of death times, you have to wait for a module release and sometimes it's great because you have other things to do, but it can be extremely boring.

A lot of problems with developers, sometimes just to annoy you they release a module on a friday at 7PM and you HAVE to stay and test it.

Everyday you do the exact same thing, over and over again.

At least where I live (Mexico) the salaries aren't that good as a tester.

Pros

Once you get the hang of it, it gets kinda easy.

As you put it, it could get you in the industry faster since you don't need a lot of languages knowledge.

You get a lot of free time that could be used to study.

You get to tell people they made a mistake and that they have to fix it, that's the best part. (jk)

That's what I got from my experience and is just an oppinion but maybe will help you.

As for programming languages I would say C# is the best way to go or Java, but they are really similar so if you learn one you can program with the other.

Hope I helped you

Good luck

How much demand is there for people with a degree in Digital Media:Concentration in Game Development?

I'm wanting to go to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and plan on going into the program listed above. Are there a lot of jobs out there that would need the skills I will obtain? Some of the skills are:

- Introduction to Interactive Design and Game Development

- Digital Design Aesthetics

-Modeling, Materials and Lighting

- Interactive Design

- Programming for Interactivity+

- C++ Programming I+

- Environment and Level Design

-Game Design Criticism and Analysis

-Film and Digital Media Elective

I'm a little nervous about the money I will be investing so wanted to know that it WILL BE OKAY!!!! :o)

In addition to all that I'll learn Dreamweaver, Flash and Photoshop.

What do you think?

What's my earning potential do you think?

Oh man I'm stressed....

How much demand is there for people with a degree in Digital Media:Concentration in Game Development?
How much demand is there for people with a degree in Digital Media with a concentration in Game Development? In short, ZERO!

I've been in the computer game development industry for almost a decade. Believe me when I say, that program is absolute crap. It is one of several dozen programs for "game development" that has sprung up in the past few years, and like all the others, it's a waste of your time and money.

There are four basic areas of the development team: design, programming, art, and level building. Designers write up the details of every tiny aspect of the game and come up with the math to support it. Programmers take the written details from the designers and implement it using programming languages like C++ and/or in-house tools. Artists create the 3D art, animations, textures, etc for everything in the game. And level builders take assets created by the artists and create the physical layout of the world.

The program at SCAD will give you a taste for each of the four areas of development, but not enough knowledge in any of them to actually get a job. If you are very interested in level building, a program like that can be a good way to get some exposure to it (but so are the Art Institutes, and simply building mods on your own). For programming, design, or art, go to a regular 4 year college. If you want to be a game programmer, you *need* a Bachelor's in Computer Science. If you want to be anything other than a programmer, you really only need Intro to Computer Science (so that you can work well with programmers later on). If you want to be a game artist, you should get a Bachelor's of Fine Arts at any good 4 year college that offers classes in 3D/computer art and animation.

For design, there isn't a major or a school that is best -- but again, any program that has "game" in the title should be avoided like the plague. In all my years in the game industry, I have never met or heard of ANYONE who got a degree in Game Design/Development who went on to become a professional game designer. Not a single person. Every designer I have ever worked with, met, or heard of has a degree from a regular college, in anything from Biology to Theatre. So if you want to be a designer -- the person who comes up with the story, the combat moves, the mobs, every tiny detail of the game -- go to a normal college and major in anything you want.

What you major in doesn't really matter with design, but there are a lot of skills you can pick up at any regular college. Along with the courses for your major, take math up through Calculus 1, and at least two courses in Statistics, two courses in writing (the more the better), one Computer Science course, and one art course. Math and writing are the main tools of a designer, and the CS and art courses will help you work with your programmer and artist colleagues later on. Fill up the rest of your course requirement with a wide liberal arts education -- history, literature, mythology, sociology, psychology, etc, are all useful in game design.

Another thing to consider is the location of the school. Most game companies will not pay for relocation for an entry level job, and some won't even interview you if you don't live in the area, so it is a lot easier to find a job after college if you already live near several game studios. How many game companies are there in Savannah? ZERO! There are a handful in Atlanta, and a few in Raleigh (see the maps here: http://gamedevmap.com/index.php?tool=loc... and here: http://gamedevmap.com/index.php?tool=loc... ), but those are not within commuting distance, making the job much more difficult to get. There are easily 5 times as many game studios in Los Angeles, or Seattle, or San Francisco, or Austin. It is in your best interest to go to a normal college near a city with at least 10 game studios.

Save yourself the money and the stress. Go to a college that will actually prepare you to work in the game industry, in a city with actual game studios.

Good luck!
Reply:This post fails to address one issue. A pre established biasness of the Game Industry against people who can't afford to go to these prestigious 4 year colleges, like MIT or Georgia Tech. . There are more than a handful of companies in Atlanta, they are just small and Indie. Report It

Reply:The game industry has it's own market from the rest of software development. Things to note:

Gaming companies are notorious for requiring crazy work hours, though some are actively trying to improve this.

Tons of people want to work on games because "it's fun", which often means more people competing for these jobs.

The gaming industry is still very largely dominated by males. If you are comfortable in that environment, this can work to your advantage because many companies are actively seeking females.

You major sounds extremely interesting and as long as you have the passion to work hard at it and become good at what you do, I am sure you will find a job with those skills.
Reply:Game design is a rapidly growing market right now. And why not? People love them! Digital media is huge to be in right now since it's so popular! Even if you don't go into a concentration in game development... What about animating? Animation in movies is huge as well right now! I'm sure you'll do just fine :)
Reply:Although i never think its a bad idea to go to school and get more educated on anything, keep in mind that this is a talent based industry. Whether you are looking at Game Design, Graphic Design or the Film industry, they are all going to be based on skill. The school will help you develop this to a degree, but it is an artistic talent.

I know and am proficent in:

all adobe (premiere, after effects, photoshop, illustrator, etc...)

macromedia~now adobe(flash, dreamweaver and macromedia fireworks)

3d studio Max

and a few other design programs

I earned a degree just as your are, just make sure that you focus heavily on creating a demo reel while in college! Trust me thats going to be more important then your degree itself-ive talked to people from disney, pixar, skylabs, dreamworks, industrial lights and magic and EA games and they all agree.

Oh yeah, almost forgot this is also a VERY competitive industry to be a part of. You usually are not just competing with people in the usa, but more people around the world.

I am 80 years old. Am I too old for a degree in computer programming?

I know a little BASIC but it shouldn't take too long to get competent in C++ and get a job would it?

How do I get a job as a superprogrammer?

I want to get one of the good programming jobs, and they require a lot more than the basics as far as API memorization and so on.

I know Java, I know C, C++, but I haven't up to this point made much of an effort to memorize APIs. How should I start?

How do I get a job as a superprogrammer?
A good programmer doesn't "memorize" APIs ... or languages ... or anything of that nature. Those things are intangible and change rapidly in a technology driven field.

Consider the changes in programming during the previous 10 or 15 years.

Concentrate on the important things ... understanding the principles of good programming ... keep up with changes in the field at the theoretical model-level and other education. If an API requires you to know more than you can rapidly get from a manual or quick computer-aided lookup ... then it's not an API worth using.
Reply:Look at www.topcoder.com. You can get excellent experience in algorithm development, design, debugging, and implementation. And it's all free. You might even make a dollar or two.

Don't memorize API calls. If you want to memorize anything, study the object models of the languages and tools that you are expert in.

I've been teaching programming for 15 years and I've never asked a student to 'memorize' anything.
Reply:Well, you just don't need to know anything more.... JUST GO TO www.rentacoder.com, that's a good freelancer site on which you will be able to get any programming proyect with your programming skillls..

Need advice for a programming career.?

I'm condsidering getting into computer programming as a new career but I'm not sure where to start. I took programming classes in college and I used to program quite a bit as a hobby, but it's been a while done any of it. What programming languages would I need to learn to actually be marketable? I have knowlege in Pascal, Ada, and C++, but it's been a few years since I've actually sat down and programmed anything. Also once I have the skills in place how would I go able getting a job in the industry. I'm currently working as an accountant and going back to school isn't really an option for me. I'm not old by any means (I'm 30), I've just realized that I was never happy working as an accountant and now would be a good time to persue something that I've always wanted to do.

Need advice for a programming career.?
C++ and Java are the hot languages now. But code monkeys are all overseas and taking those jobs. For a programming career, you would want to be the architect to make it in the USA. Instead of focusing on C++ or Jave (certainly learn both of them well), Concentrate on Object Oriented Design (OOD). Everything in the marketplace is code resuse, and OOD fits perfectly in there, be it Java, C++, C#, .net ...

What more is left to C++ after polymorphism and virtual functions??

What other topics are covered in C++ after virtual functions and inheritance??? I understand pointers dynamic memory classes iterators destructors constructors sub classes multi-file programming name spaces.....ect. I'm in college and basically I want to know how much harder does C++ get.......as compared to a professional software engineering/developer/programmer job, do you deal with very complicated code daily at your job?? Or does the whole language become second nature?? any options appreicated ! thanks.

Reply:Think of the various aspects of a programming language as tools. If you needed to join 2 pieces of wood, use a hammer %26amp; nail or screwdriver and screw. In programming, a decision has been made to use a language to solve a problem. (Hopefully, a proper choice was made.) If all the problems are writing database searches (horrors) then you won't need the same tools as you would to write a program for computing hidden lines in a CAD system. I think that your job will really be to learn to write simple, not complicated code. Complicated code ALWAYS leads to hard to find and correct bugs. You will learn to look at seemingly complicated problems, break them down into a lot of simpler ones and then use the approriate tools in your programming language to express them. Just like any "foreign" language, when you learn to "think" in the language, you have arrived. That just comes from practice and will, as you said, become second nature. Then you will understand that your job is to solve a problem that someone will pay you to solve - the coding is just how you deliver the solution.

I hope this helps- I was trying to help you look at the big picture.

Just a Question! ...Plz...?

I know c++ programming. Have just completed a book on c++, have run all its programs. Knows all the basis of this. dont have exprience. CAN I GET JOB ON THE BASIS OF C++? AND WHERE SHOULD I APPLY?

Just a Question! ...Plz...?
since you don't have a degree or anything like that, it's goin to be pretty hard to get any kinda job, what you could do is either build a killer application that no company could do without, and sell yourself that way, or get online, and search for online courses, or certs that'll prove that you know your stuff, good luck, hope ye find a job

There are lots (and by that I mean lots and *lots*) of 4 year college grads that know C++ that are also looking for jobs.

In order to compete, you need one of two things: a degree or experience.

If a degree is out of the question, then try volunteer work for some charity that needs C++ programming done. You will get some experience (and believe me, actually programming is much harder than reading about it), and possibly make some contacts to help you get a job.

Good luck.
Reply:Yes, post your resume on dice.com.

Personally I'd go with C# though.
Reply:work for yourself.. why let anyone get rich off of your knowledge.
Reply:Well, I don't think you can get a strictly-programming job based on what YOU have learned. Without schooling in the field, it may be pretty difficult. But you may be able to find somewhere that doesn't require the education.

I know around here, I haven't seen a software dev. job that DOESN'T require at least 4 yrs. of college (Bachelor's Degree).

What are the Job oppertunities in Software Programming in VB?

I am 30 years old, B.E.(Production),Cdac,M.C.M.

But Now In Teaching Field since 4 years, Wanted to shift In Software.

Side by Side I am doing Software development also from last

one year in VB.

What are the Job oppertunities in Software Programming in VB?
The prospects are excellent. Your skill set sounds limited in terms of outright coding experience, but you would probably be able to find work through any number of avenues.

If you want to work for yourself, approach computer repair shops; I'm sure they get requests for custom software all the time.

If you want to work for a company, investigate health care and finance / insurance; they have piles of money and piles of need. That's where I make all my money.
Reply:Honestly, i haven't seen many shops looking for VB6 developers. Alot of the industry is based in C/C++, and most shops are switch over to Java and the .NET framework. Albeit the .NET framework does encompus VB.NET, i think C# is definately the strongest leader in that area. All in all, knowning vb is fine, but i'd suggest you get some other languages and skills under your belt and ultimately have great problem solving skills to be able to solve any problem any any tools at your disposle (java, vb.net,c#,etc...)
Reply:the prospects are good only if you do programming in Vb.net and also learn XML and ASP.net
Reply:With your limited programming I'd consider Java or C# as they will open more doors with better pay than VB itself will.

Singapore job market for US citizens.?

I am of Indian nationality and of US citizenship. I have close to 3 years of experience in .NET C# software engineering.

Basically, I am trying my best to apply to jobs in Singapore over sites similar to and including Monster.com. Even though I have applied for over 50 - 100 relevant job postings over the past year or so, I have yet to even get a response back.

I don't have any blots on my resume, but I know it really depends on the hiring manager's taste. I seem to get a lot of interest from other US companies, but not even a reply back from one posting in Singapore. I am willing to pay for relocation and take a big salary cut.

Anyone know how difficult it is to get a Computer Programming job in Singapore for "westerners"? Anyone have any tips on how to better catch the eye of Singaporean hiring managers?

(Over 80% of the jobs say you have to be a Singaporean to even apply, btw)... its getting a bit frustrating :(... so any honost advice would really help!

Thanks!

Singapore job market for US citizens.?
Although Singapore is an IT hub for many large multinationals, most of the IT jobs have been staffed by large IT consulting firms which have their own developers and consultants from India and elsewhere.

Your best bet is to join a large IT consultancy firm such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, HCL, Accenture or Bearing Point and hopefully try to get onto a project that will be based in Singapore.

A lot of foreign IT professionals not just Americans like to go to Singapore for a few years because:

(1) low income tax rate - 20% is the top rate vs. 33% just for the Federal in the US plus you have to pay state (and sometimes city); HK is another favorite among ex-pats- top rate is only 16%

(2) no capital gains tax - trade till you drop!

(3) you will get the CPF contribution back once you leave Singapore plus interest. In the US, money you put into SSI cannot be withdrawn until you're 62 or later and is subject to US income taxes again.

To get the attention of the hiring managers, you need to be skilled not just in any combination of programming languages, you should have an industry-specific background or subject matter expertise, e.g. Risk Management application development, Basel II compliance, SOX compliance systems, Telco OSS.

Also you need to learn or known some proprietary technology such as IBM Websphere, BEA Aqualogic/Weblogic, TIBCO SOA/BPM development tools, then you will be more marketable and have a better chance in Singapore.
Reply:What would you want to move to Singapore? US is nice place..

Here is Singapore, competition for jobs is steep. There are lots of foreigners and locals competing for jobs everyday. Companies receive lots of applications and they can pick and choose.. Even locals here find it hard to find a job.. Obviously, employers will prefer Singaporeans or PR to foreigners, unless you are very outstanding.

Try changing your resume to make it more impressive or find some job networking thru friends or job agents to increase your chances.. Good luck.
Reply:It is very difficult to get a job in Singapore, even for Singaporeans. Employers want people with high qualifications, and long experience. Keep applying, since they can take more than one year to reply you.
Reply:If you get offers from US companies, why don't you work with them?

Even Singaporeans are looking for job opportunities elsewhere so you can imagine how competitive it is here. As an Indian, you are better off living and working in the US. Singaporeans will hate me for saying this but they are pretty rasict here.

Sorry to get your hopes down but why bother relocating and getting a pay cut if you're going to have a poorer quality of life?

Which programming language should i specialise in?

in college, i did cobol, c, c++, java. With regards to jobs now and in the future, which of those is best to pursue further?

My personal fave was c, but im guessing that doesnt have a good future.

we also covered jsp and asp.net (with vb.net) for creating websites, so not sure if thats a better direction to go in?

appreciate some opinions, thanks

Which programming language should i specialise in?
Most of my recent graduates (I teach computer science) say that there is a huge demand for Java and C#. So you're in pretty good shape but it wouldn't hurt at all to get some C# and .NET experience if you can. COBOL is about dead; most of my friends who were COBOL programmers are either in or done with COBOL-to-Java conversions and now do most of their coding in Java. Sadly, C and C++ are fading fast in the business sector.
Reply:If you are fresh out of college, do't look beyond C. When you are really good with C and a potential employer is impressed with your C knowledge, you'll find things easier. I say C since you say it is your favourite.

With deep C knowledge, you can get away with very less knowledge on other programming languages.
Reply:My field of expertise in programming is Visual Basic. But nowadays, most applications are connected in the Information Superhighway which is the internet, so i'd prefer ASP.NET/C#/VB.NET.
Reply:hey study C#.net yar

it will be useful

Programming?

I'd like to start learning to code programs, I heard I'd have to start with C++ so I'd like to know where should I start off, what book should I get, be as detailed as you'd like, thank you for all your help. I'd like to do it as a hobby and possibly in my future job searches, but mostly just. I've tinkered with Visual Basic, but that's another level of programming or whatever, thanks again

Programming?
O'Riley C++ programming books are really good. You can get them off of Amazon.com for cheap. Most local libraries have them also.
Reply:http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html

for your fre C++ compiler there are zillions of tutorial on the web or the "for dummies" or "for idiots" books are good starting points
Reply:Hello I would like you to post this question also in my advances system portal http://auctions.nativeoftwincities.com
Reply:I'd suggest you learn Java, which I think is a better languange for most application development. I dunno what C++ compilers are free, but Java (compiler and JVM) is definitely free. Also pointers and multiple inheritance (that what C++ have over Java) are not used very often.

Before you buy any book, go to http://java.sun.com for tutorials on Java. You can start your first java program (Helloworld) within first 0 minutes.

Once you are reasonably good with the language, I suggest you check out different componets of J2EE (jdbc, jswing, EJB, etc). This is how java is used to build the IT structure of an enterprise.

I'd also recommend checking out C#, which I hear is very similar to Java
Reply:Give python a look. It is a scripting language, but it is very fast. Another benefit is that itis not controlled by MS, it is Open Source.

What are the challenges to get a programmer job in Dubai (UAE)?

If I am not Arab, but speak a little Arabic...what are the chances of me getting a programming job. I have 4 years experience in C#, Visual Basic, IT Project Management.

What are the challenges to get a programmer job in Dubai (UAE)?
Dubai has a burgeoning IT industry, largely located in Dubai Internet City, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Media City. Most of the large IT companies now have offices in Dubai. With the government e-government initiatives, there are also many opportunities there. Oracle is very popular, but .NET technologies are also widely used. Abu Dhabi is also a major centre in UAE for IT. You may want to check out companies like Injazat. Personally, I prefer Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

The key skills are:

Fluent English

Excellent communications

Excellent project management skills

Excellent technical skills (programming, design)

Arabic isn't really the language of commerce here now. English is. With the good localization tools available now, it's the job of translators to make sure that the Arabic text is inserted correctly into the application or web site.

One issue for Westerners is that IT professionals from India have traditionally been a cheaper source of labour. That seems to be changing as the US dollar declines against the rupee and the local IT industry in India increases in its strength and amount of compensation.

Can I learn Programming?

I am a single mother with two kids. My ex left me nothing. I am from China and have no skill. I need to learn programming within 5 months so that I can get a job. My friend who is working for an online dating company told me that there is an IT programmer will move to N.C in September due to her military husband transfer and if I know programming, she can refer me to the HR department. Can anyone tell me how to make an online dating website? What languges do I need to learn? I will learn them as I have no choice in life. Thanks.

Can I learn Programming?
I suggest you learn HTML, it isvery easy to learn, and it yould take you less than 5 months to learn it (it took me a week). Then you can move on to JavaScript, if you work VERY hard then you can get it in a m,onth, and then for nice animations and loads of interactivity and power, flash will do the Job for you, one and a half moths, maximum. Then you will need to practice all of these, and in 4 months time you can do the cut. (Good Luck!! Also take the advice from others)
Reply:Start with C or C++. Ideal for building concept of programming.
Reply:C# .NET

Or you can learn html, CSS, php, javascript, and some database stuff.

Your wrong about not having skill, I assume you speak Chinese and your english seems great. You can be an interpretor between english and chinese and make decent money.

Reply:Please ask your friend,

What is the actual programming language they need for the post that is going to be vacant.

Based on that join a short term course outside and get certified.
Reply:I suggest u learn how to use Visual Basic. It's very user-friendaly and very easy to use it.U can get the free trial version online just by typing Visual Basic Express edition. And try to looks for demo video that will teach u how to use the Visual Basic from the very beginning.I think with that video,u can master the programming within two months easily.
Reply:Programming is a very ambiguous term, you can learn "programming" in 5 months but to what level is the question. If you want to get into internet/website programming then I highly recommend researching ASP.NET which can be gotten for free by downloading Visual Web Developer 2008 from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/express/downloa... There are plenty of help websites out there with sample projects and explanations, such as www.msdn.com. Good Luck!
Reply:You need to learn PHP language .. and i think you need more than 5 month to learn this langauge coz you need to learn html + css and after that you will start with php language + mysql Data Base .. and that will take 10 month if you working so hard to learn that ... and if you want me to be honest with you i want to give you one advice .... if you don't mind :

Maybe you don't life to be programming .. maybe you will doing fine with another job .. Please thinking agin about you're choice ... coz this is my job and i know how much is hard .. and so greate .

I would like someone to help me, walk threw with it with me, or just tell me that learning java is the best way to make programs, or maybe its that I would really like to build EXE programs, using C++...?a

I think C++ is what I really would like to do, since everything such as programs on a computer is exe, executable.

What qualifications do I need to start working as a C++ programmer?

Is there a course in the UK that only teaches C++, if not is there at least one that only teaches programming languages?

Ok, basically what I'm trying to find out is: what qualifications do I need to start working as a C++ programmer? I’ve browsed the Internet looking for job descriptions, but all I’ve found is that companies only look for "experienced C++ programmer" (which makes me think, how did these guys start?) and "qualifications in software engineering" (could it be more vague?) are a must. I then tried to find appropriate courses, but the ones I find are either unreliable (I'm looking for a recognized qualification) or they are too broad (e.g. "Computer Science" courses).

I am currently studying Business Management (at a degree level) and I will hopefully graduate in 2009. I haven’t done any studies in computing, I just learn C++ at home (with Sams Teach Yourself).

What qualifications do I need to start working as a C++ programmer?
either study on your own or go to Computer Science.(just take some lessons in it, you don't have to take the entire course)

it may cover lots of topics but knowing C++ is not enough to get a job as a C++ programmer.

firstly because you can't code a big project all on your own. you will only be given smaller parts to work own because of the object-oriented approach. (you may need to take some software engineering lessons)

second because if you only know C++ you will only be concerned about coding in C++. there are lots of powerful languages out there. and since you only have background on the software part, you will have no idea on how it is actually implemented in the hardware. you will not know how the codes you write is implemented (you may not care about this but knowing how it works will give you an edge over others because you can manipulate the hardware.)
Reply:a smart person once said: specification is for insects.

nowadays computer systems are complex; often, parts are executed on a server, others on a client. there are different operating systems and environments involved. C++ is not used very often, it's a niche language, like C. so don't forget to get experience about other languages and operating systems. Also, try to write programs which you then can show off when trying to get a job. this will not only give you experience, it will also show that you're willing to invest time and effort and don't give up when you have to deal with obstacles.

Best bet is to take computer programming courses at your college/university to get formal training. Do you have an adviser or counselor? They should be able to point you in the right direction.

How long does it take to master C++?

So how long does it take to pretty much master C++???

And another question, what other programing languages our good to learn expecially in getting a good job?

How long does it take to master C++?
it took my brothers friend 2 years to master.its hard stuff in the bignning so just hang in there and you find out it gets easier once you know more about it.

How can I get into robotics/computer programming before college?

I'm 14 (about to become 15), and have pretty much narrowed my career choices into two major categories: biochemistry and computers (more specifically, robotics or programming). I know that there is almost no way to get near a lab for biochemistry until I'm 18, and by then, I'll probably have started applying to colleges. Fortunately, I know that there is a way to get into robotics and programming before I'm 18, and maybe I can even get an internship in a couple of years. Unfortunately, I have almost no knowledge of any programming language. I've looked into Microsoft Dream Spark, but as of now, it's not available to high school students. I was wondering what resourses there are to learn about a couple of common languages (e.g. Java and C++) and to possibly get a part-time job/internship (pay would be nice but not necessary.) I live in outside Philadelphia and a few minutes from Princeton, so I hope there are some camps or workshops someone could point me to. Thanks in advance!

Do you have a robotics or computer club at your school? Join it or if you don't have one, get some friends and ask your computer science/math/physics etc. teacher to start one with you.

Oh yah, It is very easy to get into computer programming before college and alot of people do. When i became a fresman I had no experiance and people were already programming our projects easy.

First, program for fun, its a good hobby pretty fun and helps you learn. Java should be your first language for about 2 years or little less. Java is good for new programmers because it helps you with future problems without you knowing it and its easier to learn. You'll find out why later. Ok well do tutorials, and it may really help to buy a java programming book.

Download source code and look at it and try to recreate it. Source code is what people write to make their programs run. Look up simple source code at sites where people load them up for people like you. google source code. projectsourcecode.com for instance. Have fun. Start off VERY simple and move up. be patient, you will get good soon enough.

Added:

Java is object oriented, which is why I put it as the first choice because it is important to learn. Just get into a language to learn. Most colleges will start you off with java then to C++. All that really matters is that you learn how programs WORK.
Reply:I started programming when I was 14 in the summer of last year. I began by learning Perl. With Perl, I managed to make two programs to crash certain game servers in less than about 40 lines. (Through exploits not simple DoS) Perl is a good choice to begin with because it is very close to C. After that, I learned Python. Python was useful because it taught me alot of the object oriented features found in more advanced object oriented languages such as C# or C++. After that, I learned C++ and made a game for my biology class using the Win32 API. C++ is my favorite language because it is very powerful (Interface to Win32, DirectX, OpenGL) and is similar to C and is about industry standard. Now i am learning C#, and ive already made a video game with XNA on it. This is what I did, and im doing pretty good, so i suggest you start with either perl or python. oh and DONT USE JAVA!!! I tried it a few days, it SUCKED!. slow, everything is object oriented, just dont use it until u know u really want to. If you are into robotics, however, you might want to learn C and MIPS or x86 Assembly After perl or python, since those are the languages most often used in robotics. (For example, even the Lego mindstorm robots use C)
Reply:Well you could go to youtube or a friend. I am 11 and I know a 30 yr. old programmer that says he could teach me.
