Programming?

I'd like to start learning to code programs, I heard I'd have to start with C++ so I'd like to know where should I start off, what book should I get, be as detailed as you'd like, thank you for all your help. I'd like to do it as a hobby and possibly in my future job searches,but mostly just. I've tinkered with Visual Basic, but that's another level of programming or whatever, thanks again

O'Riley C++ programming books are really good. You can get them off of Amazon.com for cheap. Most local libraries have them also.

for your fre C++ compiler there are zillions of tutorial on the web or the "for dummies" or "for idiots" books are good starting points

Reply:I'd suggest you learn Java, which I think is a better languange for most application development. I dunno what C++ compilers are free, but Java (compiler and JVM) is definitely free. Also pointers and multiple inheritance (that what C++ have over Java) are not used very often.





Before you buy any book, go to http://java.sun.com for tutorials on Java. You can start your first java program (Helloworld) within first 0 minutes.





Once you are reasonably good with the language, I suggest you check out different componets of J2EE (jdbc, jswing, EJB, etc). This is how java is used to build the IT structure of an enterprise.





I'd also recommend checking out C#, which I hear is very similar to Java
Reply:Give python a look. It is a scripting language, but it is very fast. Another benefit is that itis not controlled by MS, it is Open Source.
