The U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force laywers much like doctors and chaplains do not go through the regular officer training.
They do their specialty training for their job, and then a "brief" (okay, several weeks) course to teach them what they'll need to know to do their specialty job, in the military.
However what about the Marines? The whole "Every Marine a Rifleman"? Since Marines don't have Chaplains or Doctors it's no issue for them, they use the Navy. However the Marines do have their own Lawyers... so what do Marine Lawyers do?
Do they do the same training as the Navy guys, just put on a differant uniform when done? (I figure the chance of this is about 0)
Do they undergo normal Marine O.C.S., AND the Marine Law training? (Wow, Rough!)
Do the undergo the Marine law training, but only go to the Marine basic rifleman course? (I figured this the most likely).
Does their Marine lawyer training occur seperate to the Navy, and include combat training? (2nd likeliest)
U.S.M.C. Law Program... do Marine Lawyers go through normal Marine O.C.S?
Marine lawyers go through OCS (unless they enter through the academy or NROTC) and attend TBS after they complete law school. However, they are commissioned upon finishing their bachelors degree so I’ve been told it’s not uncommon to have a Captain going through TBS (where you qualify with your rifle and pistol).
In short: “Every Marine is a rifleman” and “Every Marine officer is a rifle platoon leader”. A Marine lawyer may never command an infantry platoon but it won’t be because they don’t know how.
Reply:every Marine goes through bootcamp no matter what your going to be
Reply:I'm pretty sure regardless of your position in the Marine Corps everyone must do some sort of general training before attending their specialty school, regardless if its infantry or law.
I remember reading an article about George Pataki's son, who went into the Corp and completed OCS and then went onto law school.
